Remembering Riley
I stopped at the cat shelter to just look. Someone asked to look at two kittens and the volunteer opened the cage. One of the kittens immediately jumped out and right onto the volunteer’s shoulder. He started nuzzling in her hair and I knew I had to have him right then and there. He and his brother had a pending adoption so we put our name on a back up list. We got a call the next day that the adoption was going through for the first adopters. We figured it wasn’t meant to be. Then, a few days later we got a call that the adopters changed their mind and the rest is history. We adopted Riley and his brother Cody. Riley became my cat for the next fifteen years, eight months and three days. He was by my side day and night, always wanting to be held and loved on. Riley had the sweetest personality and loved everyone he met but I was always his favorite. He was extremely affectionate and would get “crazy lovey” and want to lick your hair and hug you. He loved treats, crackers, ice cream and his favorite whipped cream. Two years ago he was diagnosed with Lymphoma and he fought with everything he had. He didn’t want to leave his brother or his family. He was strong until the very end and he is missed more than words could ever express.
