Remembering Chase
Chase had this incredible way of turning every moment into an adventure, whether it was a simple walk around the block or a car ride that made his whole body wiggle with excitement. As a Border Collie, he came hardwired with intelligence and intensity, but what made him truly special was how he channeled all that energy into loving the people around him. For fifteen years, he was the kind of dog who watched everything, remembered everything, and wanted to be part of everything his family did. His loyalty wasn't just something he showed—it was woven into every decision he made, from staying close during quiet afternoons to positioning himself as protector whenever someone new came to the door.
But Chase was also a hunter at heart, and this is where his Border Collie instincts really came alive. He would station himself in the backyard for hours, completely still and focused, waiting with the patience of a true predator for any movement in the grass. His eyes tracked everything. His body tensed with anticipation. And when the moment came, he moved. Over the years, he caught countless unsuspecting creatures, each one a small victory in his mind. Then came the skunk—the first one that didn't end quite the way he expected. The spray caught him completely off guard, and suddenly this confident hunter came home wearing a smell that no amount of regular washing could touch. But his family was ready the next time, armed with hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and baby soap, because they knew Chase well enough to understand that one skunk wouldn't stop him from doing what Border Collies do.
Chase spent fifteen years being exactly who he was meant to be: intelligent, protective, playful, and endlessly curious about the world around him. He loved his people fiercely and showed them every single day. The backyard won't be quite the same without him watching and waiting, but the love he left behind will last far longer than any summer afternoon.
